This CPPPH newsletter aims to keep readers abreast of current developements and relevant information about physician health and wellbeing in California.

Definitions
Wellness activities address quality of life and professional satisfaction for all physicians. Wellbeing activities focus on an individual physician and provide resources for identifying, evaluating, referring, treating, and monitoring for physicians when addiction, mental health, behavioral issues, and the effects of aging are a concern.
Confidential Assistance Over the Phone

Prevent, Recognize Impairment

San Diego Meeting of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs
While California does not yet have a statewide Physician Health Program (PHP), we can get a first hand look at the programs in other states by attending the meeting of the Federation in San Diego. Registration for non-members is $650 before March 21.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The program is designed for health care professionals and physicians of all specialties, physician assistants, attorneys, physical therapists, case managers, nurses, licensed social workers, toxicologists, scientific researchers, and clinical coordinators who partner with Physician Health and Health Professional Programs to improve physician and healthcare professional well-being.
New Reporting Requirements: Any Allegation of Sexual Misconduct
With the passage of SB425 (Hill), a new section of the 805 requirements was added, effective January 1.
Section 805.8 is added and requires a health care facility to report any allegation of sexual abuse or sexual misconduct, as defined, made against a healing arts licensee by a patient, if the patient or the patient’s representative makes the allegation in writing, to the relevant state licensing agency within 15 days of receiving the written allegation and would require the relevant agency to investigate the circumstances underlying a received report.
“Sexual misconduct” means inappropriate contact or communication of a sexual nature.
