Regulations for the MBC Physician Health and Wellness Program

The regulations that will govern the Board’s new Physician Health and Wellness Program will be on the agenda of the next meeting of the Medical Board of California — the Feb. 29-Mar 1 meeting. Item #14 is the last on the agenda, and thus will be taken up toward the end of the session on Friday, March 1.

Agenda Item 14: Discussion and Possible Action on Proposed Rulemaking and Proposed Responses to Public Comments Received During the 45-Day Comment Period on Originally Noticed Regulatory Text for the Physician and Surgeon Health and Wellness Program (Title 16 California Code of Regulation Sections 1357 through 1357.16, and 1361.5 (c)(3))

Agenda materials should be posted on the MBC website when they become available for that meeting. Click Here, then click on “Quarterly Board and Committee Meetings February 28-March 1.” The agenda materials are posted there shortly before the meeting. The same section of the website gives instructions for how to join the WebEx event and hear the proceedings and provide public comment if you wish.

Coming to CPPPH in 2024

After our 2023 programs, we asked you what your priorities were for the topics CPPPH should cover in the educational sessions we provide. What we learned became the basis for a new approach to content for 2024.

Some of CPPPH’s programs will now be designed for persons fairly new to wellbeing committees and physician health matters. Other programs will be designed for those who have been involved for longer periods of time and whose experience has been more wide-ranging or comprehensive.

For example, in April, there will be a series of five videoconferences that, taken together, provide an orientation, or a refresher titled “Best Practices for Wellbeing Committees.” Then, at scheduled times during the rest of the year, there will be 90-minute videoconferences on the more specific topics.

Watch for the announcement of these programs. Meanwhile, if you have suggestions for a specific topic we should cover, please tell us what that is; send an email to gjara@cppph.org.
